As I put the finishing touches on my “Think Like a Translator” course, I want to make sure this online translation training is as effective as it can be. So I’ve decided to offer it in two different packages:

  • “More Languages, More Impact” – specifically for nonprofits and the translators who serve them. This should be available by the end of July.
  • “Second Language, Second Income” – specifically for bilinguals who want to earn income by doing written translation as freelancers. (Available in 2 or 3 months.)

I’ve also been reflecting on WHY I am so passionate about training translators in both of those contexts. Basically, I think there are a lot of bilinguals who could leave their (boring?) full-time job and earn the same amount doing (enjoyable) freelance translation part-time. That frees up time for them to help a nonprofit organization. It’s a win-win-win! This blog post talks about this in more depth: https://www.lianergrant.com/two-missions/.

I believe there are three key elements of effective online translation training, and I am integrating these into the “More Languages, More Impact” and “Second Language, Second Income” training packages.

  1. A fast-track course that teaches the crucial knowledge needed to get started doing written translation right away. “1-2-3 Translation” provides a simple method to follow, and can be learned and implemented in 3-5 hours.
  2. Accelerated core training that focuses on translation quality. “Think Like a Translator” walks you through 9 paradigm shifts to take you from being simply bilingual to being a good written translator. It equips you with 9 best practices to follow as you translate, grouped around three quality aspects. Instead of spending 3 years in university, you can learn basic strategies in 9 modules that each take approximately 2-3 hours to complete.
  3. Targeted training that meets specific needs. For the nonprofit package, this involves the “Translating Religious Materials” mini-course. The freelance translator package will include comprehensive modules in how to set up a translation side hustle, and how to increase your hourly profitability.

BONUS ELEMENT: Training is always more effective with individual feedback, so both packages offer an add-on option of Email Coaching.

I can hardly wait to make this training available… we are almost ready!

Have a great day!

Liane 🙂
